Blogger MVP/ROY Rankings Round 2: Singalong Edition E-mail
Written by Rob Mahoney

Welcome to the second edition of the Blogger MVP/ROY Rankings!  You know the drill: bloggers from all across the sphere voted on their top ten candidates for the MVP and their top five candidates for Rookie of the Year, in a tradition started by my blogger brethren at Brew Hoop.  The ballots were reverse-scored (1st place receives 10 points...10th place receives 1 point, etc.).  Hoops Addict hosted the first session of this season's rankings, so be sure to play catch-up if you missed out.

Our distinguished voters:

Yours, truly

Mike Fisher from DallasBasketball.com

Bret from Peachtree Hoops

Ryan McNeill from HoopsAddict

College Wolf from T-Wolves Blog

Don from With Malice

Jonny from The Lakers Nation

John from Red's Army

Joshua Coleman from 3 Shades of Blue

Daniel from LA Ball Talk

Alex from Brewhoop

Truth About It

Dino Nation Blog

Ben from Blazers Edge

Mookie from A Stern Warning

Lee from The Dream Shake

Brett Hainline from Queen City Hoops

Ben Q. Rock from Third Quarter Collapse

Jeremy from Pickaxe and Roll

Graydon Gordian from 48 Minutes of Hell

The voters offered their commentary on each of the top vote-getters, and rather than rehash what had already been said so eloquently by the rest of the crew, I chose instead to present you with an applicable song selection.  Enjoy the rankings, enjoy the comments, and don't be afraid to sing along.

MVP RANKINGS

1. LeBron James (196 points):

  • "LeBron isn't just doing everything for the Cavs right now... he's doing everything spectacularly." -John, RedsArmy
  • "I'm a big Kobe supporter but you can't deny a man's talent when he's putting up 29-8-7 in less than 40 minutes a game. Team is off to a great start with only three losses. You've got to wonder how much longer this can carry on for? Is this about Mo Williams leading the team or Lebron James winning games on his own?" -Daniel, LA Ball Talk
  • "He's going to stop getting better one of these days....right?" -Joshua Coleman, 3 Shades of Blue
  • "ESPN's headline for a recent Cavs victory over the Bucks read, "Sub-par James keys late run as Cavs slip Bucks." LeBron went for 32, 7, and 5. And that's sub-par?!" -Ben Q. Rock, Third Quarter Collapse

2. Kobe Bryant (150):

  • "Sure, he’s not scoring as much but the Lakers are winning more games. Isn’t that what an MVP should be about?" - Ryan McNeill, Hoops Addict
  • "81-1 seems possible?" - Ben, Blazers Edge
  • "His game against the Mavs (35/6/5) showed that he can still do it if played over 36 minutes. If he wins the MVP it will be based on his per 48 minutes stats." - Jonny, The Lakers Nation
  • "Scored a season-high 35 Friday against the Mavs. His season-high is only 35? Yeah, because as often as LA blows people out, he usually doesn’t stay in the game long enough to score 35." - Mike Fisher, DallasBasketball.com
  • "He’s like good and stuff." - Lee, The Dream Shake

3. Dwight Howard (134):

  • "Do they save money by engraving his Defensive Player of the Year award trophy early?" - College Wolf, T-Wolves Blog
  • "Speaking of guy's whose numbers don't lie -- how about 22/14 with 4 blocks a game? Intimidating doesn't even begin to describe him." - Joshua Coleman, 3 Shades of Blue
  • "Without Howard, the Magic are essentially the Wizards." - Truth About It
  • "Anchoring the league's third-best defense while providing some offense of his own. He could join the likes of Hakeem Olajuwon and Bill Walton if he leads the league in rebounding and blocks, as he does now." - Ben Q. Rock, Third Quarter Collapse
  • ""Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?" – Revelation 13:4"- Jeremy, Pickaxe and Roll

4. Chris Paul (126):

  • "Averaging 20+ points, and 12+ assists per game. Do you know how insane that is? Thing is, whilst I'm sold on Paul, I'm not sold on the Hornets." - Don, With Malice
  • "Even though the Hornets aren't as good as we thought they'd be, Paul should remain pretty high on this list." - Graydon Gordian, 48 Minutes of Hell
  • "Watching Paul play you get the feeling he could lead the league in scoring if he wanted to." - Jeremy, Pickaxe and Roll

5. Chris Bosh (109):

  • "Without Bosh in the line-up I doubt Toronto would have a single win this season. Plus, he's posting huge numbers such as the 39 points he scored against Charlotte while he went a sizzling 15-20 from field and 8-9 from the charity stripe." - Ryan McNeill, Hoops Addict
  • "We admit to a bias to the Dallas native here. Plus, we like his mom. We recently met Chris mama. Nice lady. Really tall. Nice bling, too: At the party, she was wearing Chris’ Olympic gold medal around her neck." - Mike Fisher, DallasBasketball.com
  • "I can't believe I left him off my last ballot, so I'm making up for it. Anyone who scores 40 points on 20 shots, and does it more than once, for a winning team, deserves MVP consideration." - Ben Q. Rock, Third Quarter Collapse

6. Dwyane Wade (104):

  • "I saw him walking down the street and I was like “Yo DWizzle, whattup playa. Keep on rocking it in da free world, you my #1 baaaaaby!” He did not know how to respond." - College Wolf, T-Wolves Blog
  • "Here due to the fact that despite his stats, Miami haven't really beaten anyone. He's an amazing player, and will most likely climb these rankings, but only if and when he does 'it' against teams better than the likes of Indiana/Washington... and on a regular basis." - Don, With Malice
  • "If he's Kobe Bryant without the jump shot, he's a much younger Kobe Bryant without a jump shot - also, he kind of has a jump shot." - Jonny, The Lakers Nation

7. Tim Duncan (52):

  • "Still waiting for his big decline. He’ll probably average at least 16 and 10 until he’s 47 years old." - College Wolf, T-Wolves Blog
  • "Does anybody realize the Spurs are 2 games over .500 and 8th in the West? Given their roster over the month of November that is miraculous. Duncan deserves a ton of credit." - Graydon Gordian, 48 Minutes of Hell
  • "To his credit, he’s filling whatever role the injury-plagued Spurs need filled. No Manu or no Parker? Duncan simply becomes more of a scorer – and the Spurs remain in contention." - Mike Fisher, DallasBasketball.com

8. Paul Pierce (41):

  • "His numbers aren’t burning up the league, but his will to win is." - Lee, The Dream Shake
  • "Respect." - Truth About It
  • "The offensive leader of the best team in the league. This should not be discounted." - College Wolf, T-Wolves Blog

9. Brandon Roy(38):

  • "He's forcing himself into the conversation.Without his heroics, Portland would be hanging around .500 right now." - John, RedsArmy
  • "He's the catalyst for the young Blazers, who are quietly sitting in the #2 spot in the Western Conference." - Joshua Coleman, 3 Shades of Blue
  • "Alright, enough of this "rising star" business. He's the deadset early re-arrival of Haley's Comet. The Blazers are knocking down doors and taking names and Roy is the stable, reliable leader of the militia. It's time to recognize, peoples." - Mookie, A Stern Warning

10. Chauncey Billups (32):

  • "How happy must the brass at Denver be watching Iverson's antics from afar? Billups has led this crew to a respectable level, and finally, the Nuggets have a leader worthy of being called a... well... ummm... 'leader'." - Don Landrigan, With Malice
  • "Before we give him too much credit for turning this Nuggets team around, let's see how much longer he keeps up the good work for. He's proven he's a great team leader but I'm yet to see that he is truly the inspiration this team was missing. Perhaps everyone else is just doing better now that AI is out of town?" - Daniel, LA Ball Talk
  • "Dark horse candidate is coming on strong and showing that he wasn't a product of the Detroit system, rather his veteran swag is adaptable and makes others better." - Truth About It

Others receiving votes: Amare Stoudemire (31), Joe Johnson (25), Kevin Garnett (22), Devin Harris (21), Deron Williams (5), Vince Carter (4), Carmelo Anthony (3), Tony Parker (3), Josh Smith (1), Dirk (1), Shaquille O’Neal (0.5), Al Jefferson (0.5)

ROY RANKINGS

1. Derrick Rose (96):

  • "I’m sticking with this guy and I’m sticking with what Chicago assistant Del Harris told me about Rose: “Well,’’ Harris says, “let’s give him some time. Every team is looking for that Nash, that Kidd, that Parker, that Paul. … Rose certainly has the opportunity to be mentioned in that class, and sooner rather than later.’’ That good enough? Or would you like to get an evaluation from somebody who’s been in the NBA for longer than 50 years?" - Mike Fisher, DallasBasketball.com
  • "Should be arrested for how he abused Andre Miller." - Ben, Blazers Edge

2. OJ Mayo (83):

  • "Just doing all that I can (from my mother’s basement) to continually stick it to Wittman and McHale." - College Wolf, T-Wolves Blog
  • "At 21.9 ppg, he's #12 in scoring in the NBA right now and is the only rookie to score in double-digits in every single game. Smooth doesn't even begin to describe his transition to the NBA." - Joshua Coleman, 3 Shades of Blue
  • "Kevin McHale is an idiot. Affirmed." - Ben, Blazers Edge

3. Michael Beasley (32):

  • "He's a definite NBA player. At the moment he won't be pushing Rose or Mayo for the top dog title, but he'll be around for a long time." - Mookie, A Stern Warning
  • "Looks like he landed in a good situation. Needs to increase his rebounding average and he could finish higher." - College Wolf, T-Wolves Blog

4. Marc Gasol (27):

  • "The big Spaniard is tougher than his older brother, much to the dismay of opposing frontcourts." - Joshua Coleman
  • "Ugly man. Pretty stats." - Ben, Blazers Edge

5. Rudy Fernandez (23):

  • "The gossip continues regarding Portland’s supposed need for a veteran point guard who fits their offense. One scout shuts that down, telling me, “They don’t have problem at point guard. You don’t need an All-Star at every position.’’ True. It might be enough to just have a Rookie of the Year contender at every position." - David Fisher, DallasBasketball.com
  • "Better than I thought he would be and maybe even better than some Blazers fans thought he would be." - Lee, The Dream Shake

Others receiving votes: Greg Oden (13), George Hill (11), D.J. Augustin (8), Anthony Morrow (3), Brook Lopez (2), Mario Chalmers (1), Russell Westbrook (1)
